Star of Spring
Out on ACT Music March 29th 2024
I had so many different sources of inspiration for this album! The title track, Star of Spring, is inspired by a small flower that blooms in April and May called Vårstjärna in Swedish (it directly translates to Star of Spring but the flower is called Glory-of the-Snow in English), it’s my blue star of spring. I was also inspired by Sylvia Plaths poetry in two songs, Metamorphoses of the Moon and Denouement, I just love her visual and rich language, and I tried to capture the atmosphere of her words. I was inspired by mathematics and physics in the Imaginary Unit and Spacetime. Have you heard about this concept called the Imaginary Unit? It’s super exciting! In the song Nowhere I wanted to sing about the feeling of when you’re walking in the woods and you feel like the trees and their spirits might be watching you!
I have always had a very vivid dream life and sometimes I wonder what it would be like if I could meet the person who I am in the dream world, sort of a personification of the dream-self. Someone who guides, helps and nurtures, who has depth and wisdom but sometimes shows you things you are trying to avoid in real life, and someone who can show you the endless possibilities of life! The Body Remembers is a song I dedicate to the women of Greenland who were victims of a contraceptive-spiral campaign carried out by the Danish Government in the 1970s. You can read about this tragic history here.
The album features some amazing musicians from Iceland, Skúli Sverrisson and Einar Scheving among others, and I think I’ve never had as many keyboards lined up for a session as I did for this, the creative process super playful and fun, and I feel both happy and proud of the results! This was also the first time I was the only producer of an album, which was an exciting step for me! I hope you enjoy it - I would love to hear what are your favourite tracks and moments on the album!
